Classic women. Classic looks. Who can forget the styles and charms of oh, so many vintage icons of the past? Hats, heels, shawls, dresses, rings...each piece illustrating the person they were.
I am endeavoring to begin a new series of posts entitled, "Heroines of Style: Exploring the Classic Women." I have always been fascinated by vintage clothing, vintage styles, and vintage women in general. Thus, I thought it might be an enjoyable thing to explore prominent women of the past and their tastes, in the meanwhile, sharing my finds with you!
Audrey Hepburn
..Born beauty. Perfect eyes, perfect face. Movie starlet.
And renowned fashion queen.
She was born British to a broken family. Her father, a Nazi sympathizer, deserted the family; an event which gave much negative impact to the girl's life. What was left of her family moved to the Netherlands for the duration of her childhood--just in time for World War II. When the Germans invaded even this seeemingly "safe" country, in a panic, Mrs. Hepburn changed the family name to 'van Heemstra;' being British in a German-invaded country was unsafe. Audrey was 'Edda' for many of her adolscent years. She was determined to be a ballerina from a young age, and danced secretly during the war to raise money for Dutch soldiers. After the war's end, she attempted to become a Prima Ballerina, but was told that being so tall (5' 7") and having been malnourished during the war would barr her way. Disappointed but determined to find something, Audrey turned to acting and modeling.
Audrey's style was unique, classy, and something that women have been trying unsuccessfully to copy-cat since the 1930's and her teenage years. She could pull off anything with that almost-too-slim figure, those dark, heavy eyebrows, and long lashes.
Audrey loved belts. They complimented her tiny waist, and were a simple, yet elegant accent to a normal day's outfit. She was often seen in attire such as the above; button-up blouse, long twirly skirt, belt, and a bandanna to add a little stylish flair.

Plain was fancy for this style icon. Black was a common color in her wardrobe--as were elbow-length gloves. A formal evening outfit might consist of a long or shorter fitted black dress, black or white gloves, a fur wrap and a sparkling of diamonds.
Diamonds were her favorites. Not pearls, gold, rubies, or amethysts, but diamonds. Afterall, "diamonds are a girl's best friend!" Thus, Audrey was most often seen with this jewel adorning her wrists, neck, and ears.
Audrey could pull of any amount of otherwise ridiculous-looking hats.
Her hair was a beautiful dark brown that looked amazing as a short bob, long and curled, or in a thick, elegant up-do such as her style in the hit, "Breakfast at Tiffany's."
Audrey Hepburn was a feminine lady, whose warbrobe mainly consisted of dresses, skirts, and the like. But every so often she would wear a pair of pants--and when she wore them, she wore them right.
..I love how she could still pull off that feminine look in jeans and a casual pull-over.
