The Cosmic Shed was built by Fred Rogers in 1984. A former systems analyst for the pentagon and artist, he'd been sketching and forming materials for building projects for years. Even he wasn't sure what form it would finally take, only that he wanted a lookout and a pyramidal space somewhere in the design. The name Cosmic Shed epitomized what he thought the final structure represented, the commination of the observed and sublime. He began to gather artist and their work to the site, as well as building steel sculptures on the land. The shed has 4 floors, each level is unique in its own way. He opened it to the public as a museum for years. It is now closed to the public.
