I decided to look at "The Wizard of Oz" as our lighthearted children's story of the week.
This was written by L. Frank Baum in 1900 and was originally called "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz". The book was illustrated by his friend and collaborator W.W. Denslow (see sidebar).
